Prof George Saitoti had organised elaborate plans for his PNU party ahead of the General Election, including a special re-launch of the vehicle he hoped to use for his presidential bid.
The Kajiado North MP was schedule to tour the UK and US to launch his campaigns in the diaspora between next week and July 20.
An advance team led by the party’s organising secretary Maina Kamanda left last Friday for the US to coordinate and prepare for Prof Saitoti’s tour that would have taken him to at least six states in the US, after a London visit to canvass for votes from Kenyans living there.
On Sunday, a distraught Mr Kamanda, speaking from Deleware, US said Prof Saitoti was to kick off his diaspora campaigns on June 20 in London.
A month later, the Internal Security Minister was to embark on a similar campaign to woo Kenyans living in the United States from July 20.
“We were to connect in London next week to start a series of meetings with Kenyans living in the UK.
“He had an itinerary and he was to meet groups of Kenyans during his four-day tour. I cannot believe that he is no more,’’ Mr Kamanda said on telephone.
The former Starehe MP said he last spoke to Prof Saitoti on Thursday evening in the minister’s office where they discussed the diaspora campaign plans shortly before Mr Kamanda left for America.

Mr Kamanda was on Sunday forced to cut short his foreign trip following the death of his party’s presidential candidate and will return home on Tuesday.
The Nation has also learnt that Prof Saitoti was to hold a meeting with all PNU aspirants in Nairobi on July 2 at party’s headquarters in Nairobi.
The death of Prof Saitoti also throws into disarray plans for a retreat by his campaign team.
The group operates from Prof Saitoti’s new presidential campaign headquarters in Westlands, Nairobi. On Sunday, the team refused to comment on the way forward.
