Deputy Prime Minister and presidential hopeful Musalia Mudavadi has dismissed claims he is a Government project.

Mudavadi scoffed at allegations by Lugari MP Cyrus Jirongo that United Democratic Front (UDF) is a Government scheme aimed at keeping some people in power.

Instead, the DPM called on leaders to respect others and mind the way they carry out their campaigns.

The Sabatia MP said he is not a vengeful person and therefore he will not be drawn into unfounded claims. “I will strive to ensure people respect each other. People are calling me names and abusing me. They tag me everywhere they go,” he noted.

Justice minister Eugene Wamalwa and Jirongo tore into Mudavadi and Eldoret North MP William Ruto at a rally in Busia at the weekend.

The warned voters to be wary of the two leaders, who they claimed were Government projects out to ensure some people remain in power.

“He may have over 20 years experience but if you carefully check his record, it is tainted with a lot of mud such as Goldenberg among other scandals,” said Wamalwa as he hit out at Mudavadi.

The DPM, who was in also Busia County on Sunday to meet delegates and aspirants vying for various posts, wondered what those targeting him in their rallies will benefit.

“What is important is that I work closely with everyone. I will not engage in verbal exchanges but focus on other important matters,” said Mudavadi.

Secure victory

The UDF party leader said he will reach out to his rivals to ensure the country goes to the General Election united. “We will initiate talks with other presidential contenders in a bid to work closely for peace and to clinch the presidency,” he said.

The DPM said as leaders, they must work together because when the next Government is formed, all the contestants will have no choice but be a team. Mudavadi noted that if any party plays it alone, it might not secure victory in the first round.

“We must play with others who are like-minded to win in the first round,” he said.
