Battered wife asks for husband’s freedom

A man who battered his wife has been released after spending four days in remand despite his wife withdrawing her complaint against him. Senior Principal Magistrate Timothy Okello set aside the woman's request and ordered that Mark Karanja spend four days in remand. Karanja last week pleaded guilty to attacking his wife. She was hospitalised due to injuries suffered in the attack. The magistrate observed that his wife’s face that was covered in bandages and questioned her decision to withdraw the case. Yesterday, the magistrate allowed the case to be withdrawn He however warned Karanja against hitting his wife in the future.
